Covid-19 Surge in Sunbelt Drives Case Spikes at Nursing Homes

A surge of Covid-19 infections among nursing home residents in the Sunbelt pushed the total number of new weekly cases at U.S. facilities to a record level at the end of July, according to data released Monday.

New nursing home infections linked to community spread of Covid-19 totaled 9,715 for the week ending July 26, the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living reported. That tops the previous peak of 9,421 new cases during the final week in May, according to the groups, which collectively represent more than 14,000 U.S. nursing homes and assisted living communities...
