Clinics Wait to See Who Gets a Break From Abortion ‘Gag Rule’

Abortion providers and supporters gained an early win against a Trump administration policy that prohibits taxpayer-funded clinicians from referring pregnant women to abortion clinics, but they’re still waiting to see who’s affected.

Judge Michael McShane could issue a nationwide preliminary injunction on the ban or a ruling that only covers the challengers in the two consolidated cases before him, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.

McShane said April 23 that he plans to temporarily block the rule from taking effect May 3, but it isn’t yet clear how broad that order will be.
