Cheering Rate Boost, Private Medicare Plans Boo Rule Changes

A hefty jump in the repayment rate for private Medicare plans wasn’t enough to quell insurers’ qualms about a host of other rule changes they say will jeopardize affordable coverage.

The 2020 average payment rate for Medicare Advantage plans will increase 2.53 percent the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced earlier this week. While plan providers cheered that boost, they reiterated their concerns about a wave of new regulations that include tweaks to a rating system letting customers compare coverage and pharmaceutical rebates.
