Centrelake Patients Score Partial Revival of Data Breach Suit

Patients affected by a 2019 data breach at California’s Centrelake Medical Group revived part of their proposed class action when a state appeals court ruled they’d been sufficiently injured to have valid claims under state contract and unfair competition law.

The patients were injured by Centrelake’s data breach because they signed contracts and agreed to pay certain prices based in part on the company’s pledge to protect their private data, the Court of Appeals of California, Second Appellate District, said in a Sept. 16 opinion.
