California Could Cover Undocumented Seniors in the Future

June 23, 2020, 2:39 AM

California would follow through on a plan to subsidize undocumented seniors’ health care under a budget agreement reached Monday, but only if the state can raise enough money to keep its emergency fund afloat.

The decision amounts to an indefinite delay to cover tens of thousands of undocumented seniors under the state Medicaid program, said Anthony Wright, executive director of Health Access California, a coalition of health-care advocacy nonprofits.

The move means many California seniors will be denied coverage “even in the middle of a pandemic that is targeting seniors,” Wright said in an interview.
