Breakthrough Cancer Therapy to Get National Medicare Coverage (1)

The Medicare agency is taking the first step to provide coverage for a breakthrough cancer therapy, known as CAR-T, on a national level.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services proposed Feb. 15 to provide national coverage of CAR T-cell therapy, which essentially trains immune system cells to kill off cancer cells.

Medicare patients currently can get coverage of CAR T-cell therapy on a case-by-case basis by applying for coverage from a local Medicare contractor that process the claims, but this would be the first time that patients could have certainty on a national level that this treatment would be...
