Blue States Taking Health Care Into Their Own Hands

Blue states like Connecticut and Washington aren’t waiting for the federal government to reform health care, opting instead to move ahead with proposals to set up state-sponsored coverage.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) is scheduled to sign legislation May 13 that would create a public option set up by the state government.

Connecticut could soon follow with its own plan, but it faces stiff opposition from the insurance industry.
