A federal judge in Washington won’t lift an order blocking the federal government from enforcing a new rule that prohibits clinics that receive taxpayer money from referring women for abortions.
Judge Stanley Bastian, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, June 3 denied the government’s request to allow the rule to take effect while an appeal from his order is pending in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Bastian issued a nationwide preliminary injunction against the rule April 25.
