BGOV OnPoint: Democrats Move Forward With Drug Pricing Bills

Allowing Medicare to directly negotiate the price of prescription drugs is a top priority for Democrats as lawmakers begin discussions on President Joe Biden’s infrastructure and economic plans.

Though Biden didn’t include broad health-care changes in his first two proposals, Democratic leaders are pushing to include drug pricing in the next legislative package. They will likely need to use the budget reconciliation process to advance policies such as Medicare price negotiations that Republicans generally oppose.
