BGOV Bill Summary: S. 2796, Rural Opioid Abuse Response Grants

Eligibility for the Justice Department’s comprehensive opioid grant program would be expanded by S. 2796 to include a pilot initiative to make grants for community response programs in rural areas that focus on reducing opioid overdose deaths.

Response programs would be run by units of local government, in collaboration with public safety and health agencies or collaborations involving behavioral health.

The Office of Justice Programs would have to increase grant amounts for a pilot program by as much as 5% for two years after the Justice Department certifies the rural area submited data on prescribing schedule II, III, and IV ...
