Baltimore Urges Denial, Delay for Review of Family Planning Rule

The U.S. Supreme Court should deny review of a Fourth Circuit decision blocking the Trump administration from enforcing a rule that prohibits federally funded family planning service providers from referring patients for abortions, Baltimore officials said.

At the least, the nation’s top court should delay acting on U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II’s petition for review until February, as President-Elect Joe Biden has pledged to reverse the rule early in his administration, “long before the parties can brief it or the Court can hear or decide it,” the mayor and city council of Baltimore said.
