Association Health Plans Get Boost From North Carolina Lawmakers (1)

North Carolina lawmakers sent Gov. Roy Cooper (D) a bill Aug. 13 to allow small businesses to band together to offer group health insurance plans.

The measure (S.B. 86) authorizes association health plans in North Carolina, a move aimed at lowering insurance costs for small businesses and their employees. Such plans don’t have to meet all of the requirements set out in the Affordable Care Act.
