Antibiotic Investment Bill Excluded From Defense Package (1)

A bill that would give $6 billion to antibiotic developers failed to make it into a defense spending package that a bipartisan group of sponsors had sought as a vehicle for passage.

Lawmakers on Tuesday unveiled a final version of the National Defense Authorization Act, which includes pay increases and compensation for troops. But it didn’t include provisions based on the Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance (PASTEUR) Act, which would pay drug developers upfront for access to new antibiotics to treat drug-resistant infections.
