Global Accounting Rulemaker Chief Forges Ahead on Sustainability

Hans Hoogervorst wants to crown his tenure as chair of the global accounting rulemaker by achieving two goals: Make financials reflect risks like climate change and define non-standard accounting metrics like operating profit.

“We have a range of projects aimed at achieving better communication in financial reporting,” Hoogervorst, the two-term head of International Accounting Standards Board, said in an email to Bloomberg Tax. In particular, the IASB is looking at improving narrative reporting in areas like sustainability and company strategy that are important to investors but largely ignored by formal standards.
