Accounting Grads Dipped, Fewer Hired by CPA Firms Amid Covid

Fewer accounting majors graduated in 2020 extending a years-long decline in new CPAs which, in tandem with high turnover, has pushed salaries higher to keep and attract talent.

The number of college graduates earning a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting dropped 4% at the onset of the pandemic, according to the latest hiring trends report the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants released Wednesday.
