Yankee Companies Win $103M for Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Breach

Three nuclear power companies are entitled to $103 million for the Department of Energy’s ongoing breach of contract for failing to dispose of spent nuclear fuel, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims said.

The government doesn’t dispute that Yankee Atomic Power Company, Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company, and Yankee Atomic Electric Company, which the court referred to as the “Yankees,” continue to incur damages because of the lack of a permanent site for the waste, Judge Nancy B. Firestone said.
