United Airlines Says No Backing Out of Retaliation Settlement

United Airlines Inc. asked a federal court to enforce a false claims retaliation settlement with a former aviation technician who “now seeks to back out” because of tax implications involved with the agreement.

After-the-fact issues, such as whether the technician’s recovery would be subject to payroll taxes, are immaterial and don’t prevent the enforcement of a valid agreement, United told the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

Parties don’t have to mutually assent to every detail of an agreement for it to be valid, United said.
