Los Angeles Denied Appeal in Federal Housing Fraud Case

Los Angeles must face a False Claims Act lawsuit accusing it of making false representations to receive federal housing funds, the Central District of California said in denying the city’s request that it be allowed to appeal a ruling denying its motion to dismiss.

An interlocutory appeal isn’t justified because the city wants a re-application of the law to alleged facts, not clarification of a legal standard, Judge Philip S. Gutierrez of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled Oct. 2.
