UK Sued Over Climate Plans in First Legal Test of ‘Net Zero’ (1)

The UK government’s much-hyped net-zero strategy is under attack from environmental groups, who claimed in a London court that its plans to radically decarbonize the economy in the coming decades fall short of what’s needed to avoid catastrophic climate change.

The three groups kicked off their case Wednesday, arguing that the government’s targets are theoretical and don’t comply with the U.K.’s own climate-change legislation. They said the UK’s own proposals for meeting mid-term targets are likely to be inadequate.
