Goldman Analyst Calls Soaring Coal Finance ‘Massive Setback’ (1)

Europe’s reliance on coal may stretch beyond this winter as the world’s “worst emitter” enjoys a dangerous revival, according to a senior researcher at Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

The return of coal represents “a massive setback from a climate change perspective,” Michele Della Vigna, Goldman’s London-based head of natural resources research for EMEA, said in an interview. “We have restarted coal plants everywhere in the world, and coal-fired power plants are the worst emitter on a global basis.”
