Wisconsin Utility Prepares For $7.2 Million Gas Plant Cleanup

Wisconsin Public Service Corp. has tentatively agreed to pay $7.2 million to clean up a former gas plant under the EPA’s oversight in a proposed consent decree in federal district court.

Under the agreement, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin on Thursday, the electric and gas utility would carry out the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2018 cleanup plan for the site and reimburse the agency for about $6,000 in past response costs.

The Manitowoc, Wis., site, about 40 miles south of Green Bay, includes a former manufactured gas plant operated by Wisconsin Public Service’s predecessor...
