Wisconsin Environment Agency Gets to Work Writing PFAS Rules

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board on Wednesday took a step forward to limit the use of firefighting foams containing harmful “forever chemicals” known as PFAS.

The board approved a statement of scope that authorizes the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to complete emergency and permanent rules implementing Wisconsin Act 101.

The law, enacted in February, bans the use or discharge of Class B firefighting foam containing intentionally added poly- and per-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which epidemiologists have linked to several diseases and types of cancer.
