White House Environmental Council Hires Professor as Top Lawyer

A law professor and former government lawyer will serve as the top legal official for the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Justin Pidot has joined CEQ as its general counsel, according to two people familiar with the matter. The council oversees implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act across government agencies and advises the president on other policy issues.

Pidot joins CEQ as it’s tasked with reviewing an aggressive Trump-era overhaul to federal NEPA regulations. Advocates are pressing the council to move quickly to dismantle the 2020 changes, which speed up and narrow the scope of federal environmental reviews. ...
