What German Parties Are Promising Ahead of September’s Election

With Germany’s election fast approaching, the main parties have published their manifestos. We compared the things voters care about, from taxes to housing and climate, to see what kind of coalition government might make most sense when it comes to the key issues.

Christian Democratic Union Chairman Armin Laschet is running to replace Angela Merkel for the conservative alliance and has regained ground lost to the Greens, led by Annalena Baerbock. Support for Merkel’s CDU/CSU bloc climbed back to 30% for the first time since March, according to a Forsa poll for RTL/ntv published Wednesday, with the Greens slipping to 20%.
