Whale Activist’s Passion Fails to Give Him Legal Stake in Case

Massachusetts officials can avoid a lawsuit by a whale activist over its licensing of vertical buoy ropes used by fishermen, a federal judge said in a ruling that was still celebrated as a win for the activist.

Richard “Max” Strahan, also known as Man Against Xtinction, failed to establish standing, according to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Strahan not only had to show right whales were harmed by the state’s actions but also that he will be directly affected by the harm to the whales, the court said.
