VW Settles Two States’ Diesel Software Update Cases (2)

Volkswagen AG will pay New Hampshire $1.15 million and Montana about $350,000 to settle claims that its post-sale software updates to diesel vehicles violated emissions laws, the company said Monday.

The cases are among several state lawsuits and at least two county-level claims over the updates. The Ohio Supreme Court allowed that state’s lawsuit to proceed in June, saying the federal Clean Air Act doesn’t preempt state law with respect to changes after the vehicles belonged to consumers.
