Virginia Moves to Cut Carbon Emissions From Utilities by 2045 (1)

Virginia would target eliminating all carbon emissions from utilities by 2045 under legislation headed to Gov. Ralph Northam (D).

State lawmakers agreed to a version of a bill (S.B. 851) that sets out a series of milestones and authorizes an emissions trading program that would gradually reduce the amount of carbon the power sector can release.

“Governor Northam strongly supports the clean energy goals outlined in this legislation, and our administration has been involved in bill negotiations,” Alena Yarmosky, Northam’s press secretary, said Friday. “He will carefully review this bill when it reaches his desk.”
