Utility May Opt Out of Colorado Oversight Over Lawmaker Protest

Colorado lawmakers are urging one of the state’s largest utilities to delay considering a plan to voluntarily shift to federal regulation and away from oversight by the four states in which it operates.

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. of Westminster, Colo., has been considering having the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission regulate its wholesale rates, in lieu of regulation by state agencies.

Tri-State’s board is scheduled to continue deliberating on the move at a meeting July 9 and 10, said Lee Boughey, spokesman for the company.
