Utilities Seek Chargers Every 50 Miles from Mexico to Canada

West Coast utilities on Wednesday unveiled an $850 million plan to install electric chargers every 50 miles along Interstate 5 from the Mexican to Canadian borders to serve zero-emission delivery and freight trucks.

The West Coast Clean Transit Corridor Initiative study also calls for adding charging sites at 41 locations along highways in California, Oregon, and Washington that connect to Interstate 5.

The plan provides a route map for utilities to coordinate on installing charging stations to ease the transition from diesel-powered hauling to electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
