Utah Drops Claims Against EPA Over Gold King Mine Blowout

Utah is dropping its pursuit of cleanup costs for contamination from Gold King Mine on the fifth anniversary of the Colorado mine’s blowout, the EPA announced.

The Environmental Protection Agency and state of Utah reached a settlement agreement Wednesday. In exchange for dismissing Utah’s claims against the EPA’s contractors involved in the massive spill, the agency agreed to provide the state “meaningful and substantial involvement” in the ongoing environmental cleanup.
