U.S. Virgin Islands Refinery Revival Targeted by Activists (1)

The revival of an old oil refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands is being challenged by residents and conservation groups after it got a second lease on life from the Trump Administration.

The Sierra Club and the Center for Biological Diversity are among groups that filed a petition with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency urging the review of a permit for the Limetree Bay refinery in St. Croix, according to a statement Wednesday. The filing claims the agency set lenient air-pollution standards and failed to protect a vulnerable community of color.
