U.S. Asks Supreme Court to Pass on Guam Cleanup Case (Corrected)

The federal government is pressing the Supreme Court not to take on a Superfund cost recovery case involving a Guam landfill leaking contaminants into the Pacific Ocean.

The Justice Department argued in a brief filed Monday that the territory is responsible for contamination from the Ordot Dump, which Guam has operated for decades. The territory claimed in its cert petition that the U.S. Navy is responsible for toxic waste disposed there before Guam owned the property.
