Two Chemical Safety Duties Vie for Limited Time, EPA Says (1)

The EPA’s duty to issue rules limiting people’s exposure to risky chemicals is competing with its obligation to make sure those regulations protect people who are highly exposed to them, the agency’s top chemicals official said Wednesday.

The Environmental Protection Agency won’t make a single one of the deadlines the 2016 Toxic Substances Control Act amendments set for final rules controlling the first 10 chemicals the agency evaluated and found too risky, Michal Ilana Freedhoff, assistant EPA administrator for chemical safety and pollution prevention, said at a conference on the Toxic Substances Control Act six years after Congress overhauled it. ...
