Trump Administration Defends Opening Protected Waters to Fishing

Little prior commercial fishing means environmental groups haven’t alleged a concrete injury in their challenge to President Donald Trump’s proclamation lifting federal protections in waters off the Massachusetts coast, according to a government filing in a Washington, D.C., federal court.

Trump’s June announcement that the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument would be open to commercial fishing triggered a suit by the Conservation Law Foundation, the Center for Biological Diversity, and others.
