Timber Sale in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest Halted By Court

The Trump administration can’t move forward with an old-growth timber sale that would affect thousands of acres in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska, a federal court ruled.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska issued a preliminary injunction Sept. 23 halting the U.S. Forest Service’s planned sale on Prince of Wales Island, a section of the Tongass. The agency was set to review development bids as soon as Sept. 24, and ground-disturbing activity could have started by Sept. 27.
