Talks to Buy Giant Arizona Coal Plant Break Down

The Navajo Generating Station slid a bit closer to shutdown Feb. 28 when its majority owner said it had reached an impasse with the only interested bidder.

The 2,250-megawatt power plant near Page, Ariz. is currently scheduled to close at the end of the year. Coal industry observers are closely watching the fate of one of the nation’s biggest coal-fired plants, and some have urged the Trump administration to step in if necessary to keep the plant open.
