Flights would likely become more expensive under a Swedish plan to make aviation fuel cleaner, industry representatives said March 5.
Their comments follow the Environment and Energy Ministry’s March 4 presentation on reducing aviation greenhouse gas emissions. Contained in an expert committee’s report, the proposals include a new requirement for lower-emission aviation fuel.
Under the plan, Swedish suppliers would be required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their fuel by 0.8 percent in 2021, rising in stages to a 27 percent reduction by 2030. The reduction would be achieved by blending jet fuel with biofuels.
