Superfund Site Considered as Potential Immigrant Housing

One of the sites that the U.S. Navy is considering to house thousands of people struggling to enter the U.S. is on EPA’s list of hazardous sites that pose health risks.

Time magazine reported June 22 on an internal Navy memo outlining options for relocating up to 47,000 people to a former naval weapons station in Concord, Calif. The Environmental Protection Agency designated the station as a Superfund site in 1994, after an investigation found high levels of arsenic, a chemical linked to cancers, lung disease, and early childhood development problems.
