States Seek to Halt Biden Metric for Greenhouse Gas Costs

Republican-led states want a federal court to swiftly sideline the Biden administration’s approach for calculating the costs of greenhouse gas emissions.

Missouri and 12 other states on Monday sought a preliminary injunction barring agencies from using the newly strengthened “social cost of greenhouse gases” as binding values in any agency action.

“In theory, these numbers would justify imposing hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars in regulatory costs on the U.S. economy in upcoming years to offset these supposed ‘social costs,’” the states told the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
