States Move to Force Interior’s Hand on Oil and Gas Leasing

Thirteen states led by Louisiana have moved to force the Interior Department to show how it’s complying with a federal injunction against the agency’s oil and gas leasing moratorium, court filings show.

The energy-producing states, in Louisiana v. Biden, moved this week to show cause and compel compliance with U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty’s June 15 preliminary order against the White House “pause” on oil and gas leasing.

The Justice Department is expected to respond on Aug. 24. The parties on Thursday agreed to proposed briefing schedule calling for DOJ to also lodge an administrative record by Sept. 17. ...
