Sonnen GmbH’s new battery manufacturing plant in South Australia will begin production in November, providing the German company with a launchpad to expand into markets including the Philippines, Thailand, and ultimately China.
The facility, on the site of General Motors Co.’s former Holden car factory, will produce 10,000 household storage batteries a year for the Australian market and for export, according to Chief Executive Officer Christoph Ostermann.
Building the new factory in Australia positions the company to tap demand in the Asia-Pacific, Ostermann said in a Sept. 9 telephone interview.
