Signature Collection Stirs FirstEnergy Nuclear Subsidy Struggle

The future of $900 million in subsidies for two struggling Ohio FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. nuclear plants is boiling down to a signature-gathering skirmish in which subsidy supporters are hiring the competition away from opponents.

A group behind a petition drive to repeal the subsidy says FirstEnergy-backed forces are using public election records to poach signature gatherers, costing the repeal campaign unknown thousands of signatures and harming an effort to put the issue to voters in 2020.
