Shell Says U.S. Justice Department Closed Nigerian OPL 245 Probe

Royal Dutch Shell Plc has received notice from the U.S. Department of Justice that it closed its investigation into a 2011 oil deal in Nigeria that Italian officials say was corrupt.

The U.S. was investigating Shell and Eni SpA over the $1.1 billion acquisition of an offshore oil block, called OPL 245, after allegations surfaced that the payment both companies made to secure the deal was partially converted into bribes.
