Senators Say Promoting Mining Helps Boost Clean Energy (1)

A bipartisan group of senators is worried the U.S. is getting pushed out of the global market for the critical metals used in everything from smartphones to solar panels to electric cars, and they want to boost the domestic mining industry to help the country catch up.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said the global transition to renewable energy will require the production of more batteries, which will mean skyrocketing demand for the mining of cobalt, lithium, and, especially rare-earth elements.
