Senate Passes Bill to Boost Farmers’ Carbon Credit Markets (1)

The Senate passed a bipartisan bill Thursday that would encourage agriculture producers to use carbon credit markets by offering government certification and verification.

The measure (S. 1251) from Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chair Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) passed on a 92-8 vote and now heads to the House.

Cosponsors in the Senate are almost evenly split between Democrats and Republicans, and include Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
