The Energy Department’s carbon capture research programs could undergo a major tuneup if the Senate energy committee’s bipartisan duo has its way.
Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), the top ranking Democrat and Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, are teaming up on an effort to refocus and expand the Energy Department’s development of carbon capture technology.
Their bill—introduced April 11 and known as the Enhancing Fossil Fuel Energy Carbon Technology Act—would authorize millions of dollars for several new carbon capture research programs at the Energy Department.
