Second Company Asks U.S. for License to Store Nuclear Waste

Holtec International filed an application with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build a consolidated interim nuclear waste storage facility in New Mexico, the company announced April 5.

It becomes the second interim storage application filed with the NRC by a private company trying to break into the nuclear waste storage business. Currently, all nuclear waste from commercial plants in the U.S. is stored on-site at nuclear plants.
