Saudi Arabia Aims to Award First Wind Power Contract in December

Saudi Arabia expects to award a contract this year to build the first wind plant foreseen under the desert kingdom’s national renewable power plan, the energy ministry said.

Electricite de France SA and Abu Dhabi’s Masdar submitted the lowest of four bids to build the 400-megawatt plant, the ministry’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office said in an emailed statement. The technical aspects and feasibility of the bids will be reviewed before the office announces the winner Dec. 18.
