San Onofre Nuke Plant Decommissioning Can Proceed, Court Rules

A California safety group’s challenge of a nuclear power plant decommissioning failed Tuesday, when the Ninth Circuit agreed that a lower court lacked jurisdiction to rule on Nuclear Regulatory Commission orders.

Public Watchdogs, a nonpartisan corporation that investigates regulatory agencies and utilities in California, had appealed the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California’s ruling that it couldn’t weigh in on claims that Southern California Edison Co.'s San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station was being decommissioned negligently.
