Salton Sea Restoration Won’t Affect Habitats

A proposed “sea-to-sea” restoration concept for the Salton Sea is intended as a long-term solution and not meant to compete with habitat restoration efforts currently underway at the stressed ecosystem, according to Imperial County board supervisors.

Supervisor Michael Kelley said he has been “beating the drum for a long time” on the idea of pumping water from the Sea of Cortez into the Salton Sea but emphasized the plan is one that would take many years to realize and that its promotion by the supervisors isn’t meant to interfere with short-term fixes around the dying lake.
